To all the noise boys:
The good old backtrack artist… wonderful start to the entertainment career. As easy as googling the amazing song you learnt to sing at vocal school and entertaining the jam packed bar for 2-6 hours.
Is this a changing our way of life? Let me explain:
We buy very high quality speakers (like jbl) for the price of a bus, to setup and sound check for hours… and then the “one day I will be an artist” will rock up with a mp3, or aac from itunes… compressed audio so bad, you could have left the mid and low range drivers at home!
And it doesn’t stop at bars and pubs. Outdoor festivals are starting to use these fellas.
Then you have a massive rig to play a mp3! We can only sprinkle our magic on the track so much to make it sound less ear piercing… Are we wasting our time? What if we bought the cheap Chinese speakers? It already sounds the part.
What I think is, we should educate! Educate the artists, get them to spend the money on a decent track, to make a decent show, to make a decent impression, to make a decent profit. Educate the “dj turned sound engineer” to stop using the speakers that are made by a company selling washing machines, to make the artist confident, to get booked for the next gig, to spend time on what matters which is quality!
